1. Write down the dreaded task. Writing down the task you’ve been putting off brings the project to the front of your mind so it can’t easily be ignored.

2. Identify the underlying feelings. According to psychologists, procrastination is an emotional reaction. One of three core emotions is always driving it–fear, anger, or sadness. For example, you might be worried that you won’t get the job done well enough and on time (fear). You may feel resentful because you have to do something you hate (anger). Or you might feel inadequate or ill-suited for the task (sadness). Dig down deep to identify which emotion is causing you to drag your heels.

3. Move the emotion out of your body. Emotions are pure energy; they either flow through our body when we express them, or get stuck when we don’t. If they’re not expressed constructively and physically, they build up inside us like a pressure cooker. In a private setting, do exaggerated shivering to move out the fear; punch a pillow or stomp around to release anger; or watch a movie that makes you cry to express the sadness. It may sound silly, but it works.

4. Find an antidote to each negative thought. What negative thought pops into your head when you think of this task? You can neutralize such negative thinking by replacing each one with a “truth” that contradicts it. For example, if you think “I’ll never be able to learn all this,” you might say to yourself, “If others can learn this, so can I.”

Find Your Match on Hitch.me, the Dating Site for LinkedIn Professionals

The online dating site lets users browse through profiles of hundreds of LinkedIn professionals all over the world, send them private smiles (without words), pitches (250 characters) and even presentations (private images and videos).

Once you sign into Hitch.me using your LinkedIn account, your professional information, including your LinkedIn photo, is automatically added to your profile. To keep the site professional, users cannot change or modify their profile photo.

After noticing how unsafe some online dating sites are and how many are filled with scammers and sex offenders, Naveed Nadir wanted to fill a void in the online dating world. He decided to marry the dating world and professional world by creating Hitch.me, the first and only dating platform for LinkedIn professionals.

“There are a lot of dating websites out there but most people on those sites lie and have fake profiles,” Naveed Nadir, founder of Hitch.me, told Mashable. “With LinkedIn, people get a sense of security and they feel more comfortable with the network.”

The online dating site lets users browse through profiles of hundreds of LinkedIn professionals all over the world, send them private smiles (without words), pitches (250 characters) and even presentations (private images and videos).

Once you sign into Hitch.me using your LinkedIn account, your professional information, including your LinkedIn photo, is automatically added to your profile. To keep the site professional, users cannot change or modify their profile photo.

Users can then fill out their own personal profile, which includes information such as age, date of birth, interests, photos, etc. Hitch.me’s privacy options lets users limit the visibility of their personal profiles to only selected individuals.

To save you the hassle of searching for compatible users, Hitch.me shows you all of your matches with their professional and personal profiles on your own dashboard.

Although Hitch.me does not charge a monthly fee, credits are required to view personal profiles and send messages. Users receive 200 free credits upon signing up and 100 credits per each person that signs up by clicking on a shared link that users can post to their social networks.

Thereafter, credits cost $10 for 300, $25 for 1,000 and $50 for 2,500. Once you pay via credit card, a receipt is sent to your email and you obtain full access to browse professional and personal profiles and send messages.

Twenty credits are required to unlock a profile or send a smile, 50 to send a pitch and 100 to send a presentation.

”The intent is to keep Hitch.me professional and to make it as private and secure as possible,” says Nadir.

Hitch.me is self-funded and has officially launched Thursday.

Can We Date?

We have often wondered the very same thing, or very nearly the same thing. After doing a little research, we are surprised to find that, in about half of the U.S., it’s perfectly legal to marry a first cousin. (To which, gaaaaaahhh!) Apparently, according to this related article, a little over 10 percent of all marriages in the world are between second cousins or closer. Of course, your question does not concern the legality of your prospective union, but what society will say. Fact is, that’s why these kinds of things are regulated. Because society kinda has a responsibility to weigh in.

As we all know, society is both 1) the tie that binds and nourishes our common humanity; and 2) the bullies that made my prepubescent stature and my early aptitudes for all things academic take the long way around the back of the middle school between classes, just so “society” wouldn’t get any ideas in the halls and single me out for a beating. In other words, it’s rough, and aside from the act of cannibalism, no single reflex of the hive mind triggers such a deep-seated, troglodytic response as whom we choose to couple with. Which is funny, you know, because even with all of our proscriptions against incest and such, if you read your Bible you’ll notice that humans started with just one man and one woman, so clearly their children would have had to hook up to propagate our millennia-crossing, evolutionarily dominating species, right?

Are You Dating Your Client?

The other day I realized that the relationships that I have been developing with my clients are similar to what I remember of the dating world. Of course, it’s been over 20 years since I was allowed to date anyone other than my wife, but from what I can recall, the similarities are there. Curse her and her “no dating” rule!

What kind of relationship are you in with your clients?

Flirting – You’re interested in each other, but haven’t made a commitment to do anything yet. Perhaps they are currently committed to another, but that relationship is struggling and you have an opportunity to provide this client with something fresh. You are regularly searching for a reason to call them, to get their attention, in hopes of creating that first date project.

Dating – You’ve been working with a new client and you are still trying to impress them at every opportunity. You aren’t exclusive yet, but you both like the work that has been produced and don’t see any reason to stray. You are looking forward to their calls, and they readily answer yours.

Married – You know what your client likes and dislikes, and you know how to ask in order to meet your creative or budgetary needs. You are mutually exclusive – you don’t do any work for their competitors, and they only use you for projects within your skill set. You might have had a few fights, but the relationship is strong, and you are fiercely protective of their business. You are seeing your creative projects grow over time, and the affect they are having on the business is positive.

“I’m in Love Idea”

In my social life, I’ve only been in love once and it didn’t work out in the end due to long distance and bad timing. In business, I’ve been in love twice. Once with TypeFrag and now a second time with Carbonmade. Just as in your social life, when you meet someone great you get this gut feeling and your stomach fills up with butterflies, the same is true when an idea clicks with you. You fall in love. Your stomach churns and you can’t sleep at night, all because you want to work on the idea so much — the equivalent being wanting to be with someone all the time.

If you’re thinking “I’m not really into you”, then you should pack away your thoughts and wait for the next idea. If you’re at all successful developing your idea then you’ll be fully involved with it for at least five to seven years. You don’t want to be invested in something that you don’t care about enough to commit to for that long. And most importantly, you won’t be able to give an idea your best work and attention if you’re not in love. Your relationship will suffer and, ultimately, die out.

Coming up with ideas isn’t too difficult, but finding the right one can be a challenge. Even worse, following an idea that just isn’t good enough can lead to disaster. Focusing on one idea at a time can help you weed out the bad:

“Good ideas are a dime a dozen” or “execution is everything” are popular phrases entrepreneurs roll off their tongues when asked, “Do ideas matter?” While I provisionally agree with both statements, it’s just not so black and white. Both phrases are rather misleading. Ideas don’t simply materialize out of thin air, and not every idea is worth your time. As popular as it is to dismiss the thought of coming up with a good idea — you know, because it requires sitting around, thinking and suspending activity — it’s critical to focus on one idea at a time, preferably your “I’m in Love Idea.”

Without that focus, Fry suggests you’re in danger of entertaining ideas that seem good but don’t mean all that much to you. If you’re not sure—if you’re not in love with the idea—you’re better off letting it go. Whether you break up with your idea or fall madly in love with it, when considering the idea don’t let it just sit in your head. As Ze Frank points out, it’s better to let the ideas out and see what happens rather than keeping them in your head (where they’ll turn into brain crack).

But what about execution?

While execution is far from everything — despite the nice ring to the slogan — a better way to phrase it would be that an “I’m in Love Idea” isn’t going to do the work for you. Leer más ““One idea at a time. Preferably one you love.””

Whenever my marketer friend visits a website, right after looking at the product or service, he goes directly to the company’s blog. He tells me, “Show me a company’s blog and I’ll tell you if that company will be successful or not.” He makes an interesting point.

A blog, when used strategically, is an effective way to communicate with customers and clients – it’s also a powerful tool that can help directly generate revenue.

Blogging doesn’t require upfront expenses (well, except the time to create the content, which is something that can be managed by a dedicated person). Built attractively and written well, a blog can also drive traffic from search engines. Since each blog post can stand alone as its own page, marketers can merchandise relevant products and services on those pages, without any direct cost!
