Shortly after starting my first Google Adwords campaign back in 2007, I was tempted to make an evil thing. I thought “what if I put as keywords the names of my main competitors?” A little devil with my own face on one of my shoulders insisted: “Do it!, it will generate traffic to your website at the expense of another name” … On the other shoulder, a little angel insisted me on doing just the opposite.
Finally, I decided to pay attention to the little angel. Not so much for his pleas, I just understood that I could get into a negative dynamic.
And all this stuff? …
Last night, while writing the post “¿Votos or Botox?” I needed to do a Google search. When looking for José Antonio Griñan (Labour), I found a Google Adwords Ad of Javier Arenas (Conservative). For me it doesn´t seem elegant. I think the keywords in your campaign should be based on the ones representing your offer, not the name of your competitor.
