The year is almost over. Great leaders know how to tie up loose ends and make sure their employees are happy and ready to move forward.Salespeople live and die by the annual review. The 10 Traits of Outstanding Leadership

This article is for parents, teachers, counselors, small business owners, managers, or anyone else who interacts with others and has some influence over them. If this is you – then you are a leader.

Having influence over people isn’t just about being in a formal position of authority. This is part of it, but influence works both ways: kids have influence over their parents, students over their teachers and spouses over each other.

What is meant by ‘leader’? Ask a hundred people and you’ll probably get a hundred different answers, although many of them will be able coercion or manipulation, since this is the experience many people have had with those in formal leadership roles. A parent may try to force a child to tidy his room; a team leader might try to push a member of his team to make more sales. But to manipulate and coerce is to misunderstand what leadership is about and, in the end, is counterproductive. The reality is that people cannot be coerced. In his book, Choice Theory, William Glasser makes the compelling case that, even in the most extreme situations, people cannot be forced into things, and that, even when coercive tactics appear to work, they do not produce the best or sustainable results. People might comply to some extent, but they will never be putting their heart into the task so long as they feel forced.

The real, and often misunderstood, job of a leader is simply this – to put people in a position to thrive. When people thrive – when they have a clear sense of purpose and are successful – they are using all their energy, achieving more and contributing fully. So how does a leader do this? Effective Sales Presentations for Closers

The Closer is a television show about a police detective who has an uncanny ability to close cases. The secret to her success is how she leads suspects into confessing in the interrogation room.

You can have the same success. Not at closing police cases but at closing deals. Instead of interrogating murder suspects, you’re going to give killer sales presentations. Luckily you don’t need a gun, just some basic sales presentation techniques.
Preparation

Are you ready for this? The prospects you are meeting want to do business with someone they can count on. You need to be comfortable and confident during your sales presentation. You won’t close the deal if you’re not ready.

* Have all of your materials are ready. You should have ample copies of brochures, one-sheets or other handouts.
* If you’re going to use a PowerPoint or Keynote presentation from your computer, make sure you know how to start it up without fumbling.
* Bring your own projector. This guarantees you have all the equipment you need to show your presentation. Make sure you’re familiar with how it all works.
* If you do create a slideshow, rely on images — not words and numbers. Effective sales presentations move and inspire prospects. You can follow up with details.
* Research your prospect’s company, industry and market.
* Know your product. Your prospects expect you to be an expert on what you’re selling.

How to identify competent (and incompetent) managers

Put Leadership Training on the Front Burner

The recession prompted corporations to cut leadership programs, and the deficiency will show up—in their bottom lines

When organizations worldwide took belt-tightening measures after the recession officially began in December 2007, training in general was on the chopping block—and along with it went leadership training. In a 2008 study conducted by learning service firm Expertus, 48 percent of the 84 corporate and government training professionals surveyed reported they were slashing their 2009 training budgets. That was up from 41 percent the previous year.

As the recession progressed, organizations continued cutting these programs. A 2009 article in The National Law Journal noted: “Leadership consultants said that firms are reducing leadership training, scaling back earlier training commitments.”

Now that the economy is showing signs of strength, it’s time to bring back leadership training.

Leadership Is Easy If No People Are Involved

Just the Speadsheets, Please

Jack’s story jolted me into a realization: Leadership is a snap if you don’t worry about people.

Managers in every state in the U.S. and around the world are evaluated on their results. Here’s the key question: Which results move the needle on managers’ raises, bonuses, and promotion opportunities? In most organizations, it’s the “business” results that matter. I’ve put “business” in quotation marks because in the twisted, people-aren’t-part-of-it view of the world, “business” results are financial results, whereas people results are a totally separate, much less important category. If people care about work, respect the boss, learn on the job, are recognized for their efforts, and trust one another, that’s awesome, but it’s awesome gravy. It’s nice to have, but not essential, in the spreadsheet-first-people-last view of the world.

My friend Jack just got a new job.

“Do you love the job?” I asked him.

“It’s great,” he said, “but the big thing is, I’m never going to be caught behind the eight ball again.”

“What do you mean?” I asked him.

“I’m staying on my game and ready to bail, at any point,” he said. “That’s my new motto.”

Of course, Jack is right. From this moment forward, any working person who thinks, “Well, I have a job; I’ll turn my attention to other matters,” is missing the boat. We can’t afford to go to sleep in our careers. We have to get altitude, stay alert, know our value and our saleable talents, and create options for ourselves all the time. The new leaders should seek to develop their skills in new environments in order to maintain high levels of trust and facilitate intrinsic motivation.

In fact, leadership through networking is no different from any other form of effective leadership, except that at first there is no other option other than “be very good leader.”

Leadership mediated by information’s technology, requires a high level of transformational leadership, given the wealth of the participatory nature of the world in interaction. And this world is composed of the organizations, the leader and the others, consumers or users and the interconnection between the leader and follower with the intervention of the hidden world between the two.

Leadership from a distance!

“The leadership mediated by technologies of information can provide the same results as the lead face and of course more effective with the use of virtual interactions.” Avolio and kaha.

In an empirical perspective, the first note about this assertion rests on the attitudes that a leader must have to maintain balance and confidence of one who follows him.

There is some freedom and ease, in no formal groups and not subject the contract to uncommitment that is only possible to avoid with one strong motivation obtained through continued attention to small stuff.

The most significant differences are related to the implications of “feel the presence of the leader” and what that entails the perception of communication processes, particularly the type of discourse as to its wealth of content, intensity and speed.

However it is not because of that the effectiveness of a leader ceases to be felt. Other features will be present as the relationship with the teams and trust.

10 Kick Ass Presentation Techniques

I’ve been lucky enough to make public speaking part of my career. It’s something I love doing and enjoy every second of, but that’s not the case for everybody. For many of you, the thought of standing up on stage fills you with vomit-inducing fear.
