As a designer, when you create a website your primary concern is how to capture the viewer’s attention without compromising the usability.

The only way to do it is by pushing up your creativity level and in order to create something truly impressive.

Colors acts differently and there is a strong concept of chromatic psychology in web design. Red, green, purple, orange…all of them stimulate the viewer’s feelings and emotion, so when you choose your color scheme you need to make a little research. A colorful website is a great choice when it comes to deliver a positive message or spread the word about an upcoming event.

These types of colors are good to raise the awareness and to capture the attention, so use them wisely because the downside can go as far as mistrust, especially when these colors are trying to promote an apparently sober idea, such as a law firm or a government campaign. In this article you can see a collection of 30 gorgeous websites which are using bright colors.

14 Examples of The Persuasive Power of Color in Web Design

To see the impact color has on the overall user experience of a website, one need only strip away a hue to see how the visual flow is affected.
While color creates the mood and feel of the site by directing user attention to certain elements, there are many ways to approach the use of color. Hue, value, and saturation are all three integrated dimensions of color that, when used properly, can enhance the site’s message just as well, if not better, than using flashy colors.

In this article we’ll delve deeper into color psychology as it relates to web design, and view examples of sites that used color persuasively in their branding efforts.
A quick intro to color

For a primer on color, one should refer to the color wheel, as it presents a logically arranged sequence of pure hues. I’m sure you’re familiar with the primaries – red, yellow, and blue; and secondaries: green, orange, and purple – which are formed by mixing the primaries.
Tertiary colors are comprised of the middle colors like yellow-green and blue-green. They are created by mixing a primary color and a secondary color. We often refer to the color wheel as it can be used to create harmonious color schemes, leading to an effective visual experience.

Showcase: Textures in Web Design

Textured backgrounds in website design are common, especially in grunge designs. But they’re used in a variety of other design styles, too.

Textures can add visual interest to an otherwise-minimalist design, or can add that extra bit of detail that really makes a design pop.

Paper textures are by far the most common, but other regularly-seen textures include stone, concrete, rust, and fabric. And they’re not just used for backgrounds, either. Some sites incorporate textures into every aspect of their design, while others just use them for accents.

Below are more than thirty great website designs that make use of textures. Feel free to share your favorites, whether featured here or not, in the comments…

Showcase Of Appetizing Restaurant Websites

They say the first bite is taken with the eye. If so, these appetizing restaurant websites succeed in whetting our appetites, inviting us to a savoury next bite. In these designs, color scheme and introductory copy show vastly different aspects of the restaurant experience. Moody warm tones create atmosphere, vibrant greens underscore freshness, and earthy colors communicate a relaxed, friendly attitude.

Because customers are increasingly using mobile browsers to make decisions on the spot, restaurant websites are doing a better job of communicating core information quickly. Similarly, full Flash websites with no mobile alternatives are seeing some decline. Especially interesting is how these businesses are improving their online menus by replacing PDF-only downloads with Web-optimized alternatives that are more readable and easier to navigate.

Puma vs. Puma

25 Beautiful Examples of “Coming Soon” Pages

“Coming soon” pages are a great way to tide over your visitors until you finish your new website. They can be used as a teaser for your future website, or places to simply put your information where people can get to it while you are under digital construction. We are going to look at a collection of how websites are successfully using “coming soon” pages.

1. SquidChef

SquidChef

SquidChef has a cute under-the-sea theme and an illustrated squid character to go with their name “SquidChef”. Having a character illustration like this almost ensures that the site is going to have a friendly feel. (Check out some more illustrated character designs). I also like the idea of putting all the information into the talk bubble.

2. Accentuate

Accentuate

I like the color scheme of this “coming soon site”. It’s a simple theme that uses pink to highlight the important areas. The colors go well with the simple layout of the website and the image of the chairs makes the website more interesting than just having text.

3. Flowdock

Flowdock

Having an illustrated look to a website usually gives it more of a fun and laidback feel. It has a bright and welcoming color palette, and I like how the headings in the three sections in the footer are different colors. It makes the color flow throughout.
