What is a Mission Statement? | businessnewsdaily.com

Vía businessnewsdaily.com

A mission statement is a statement declaring the purpose of an organization or company — the reason for this company’s existence. A mission statement provides framework and context to help guide the company’s strategies and actions by spelling out the company’s overall goal. Ultimately, a mission statement helps guide decision-making internally while also articulating the company’s mission to customers, suppliers, and the community.

It’s important to note the distinction between a mission statement and a slogan. A mission statement is not a marketing tool designed to grab attention quickly. While it should be catchy and memorable, a mission statement is a thoughtful declaration designed to articulate the goals and philosophies of a company. A mission statement is also not a business plan. A business plan is an organized outline of your ideas about how the business functions.

A mission statement differs from a vision statement. A mission statement says what the company currently is; a vision statement states what the company hopes to become. A mission statement is also not a business plan. A business plan is an organized outline of your ideas about how the business functions.

A mission statement is not an evergreen statement. As a company evolves over time, the company’s mission and intent may also change. A good rule of thumb is to revisit the mission statement every five years to see if it needs to be fine-tuned or rewritten. A mission statement will keep your company on track, but it shouldn’t become stale or irrelevant.

What does a mission statement include?

See on Scoop.itGabriel Catalano the name of the game

Good leaders are self-aware, and have thought through the issues and complications of leadership. Here are 10 questions to ask yourself – and to answer:
1. How do you personally define leadership?
Definitions of leadership abound. But if one of your subordinates asked what your definition is, would you have an answer?

The Hard Truth about Fat-Cat CEO’s

Sometimes Recessionwire carries a certain bias, one that supports the out-of-worker and opposes the big, bad CEO. As a fair and balanced news source, we find it necessary to provide the reader a glimpse of both sides of the coin. What really goes on in the life of some of the world’s most powerful people? To find out, we get the perspective of the CEO of DASSCC (Dynamic Analysts and Synergetic Systems Consultants Corporation), Peter B. Gibbonsworth, in a segment we like to call: Myth…And Busted.
Myth I: All CEOs are chubby male WASPs.

…And Busted: This old rumor! I certainly understand where it comes from, but I do believe I serve as a fine counterexample. Yes I am a male. Yes I do pack on a few extra Krispy Kremes (shout out to CEO James Morgan!). And yes I am white and I happen to attend a Protestant church. But, as anyone can tell you, the Gibbonsworths are a quarter Dutch. I kid you not. Mom’s mom. The Janssens. Also I’m pretty sure the CEO of Nabisco, or Cisco, or some corporation is a woman. I think, might want to check that out though. Busted!
Myth II: We live unnecessarily opulent, luxurious lives…

10 Post-Interview Reflections

After an interview, it’s important to take a lot of deep cleansing breaths and reflect about the “process.” If you’ve been at a job search for a while, really excited about this particular position or just aren’t sure how to gauge your performance, use these questions as a guide. More importantly, use your answers to become the better, smarter candidate:

1. Did you feel comfortable during the interview?
2. Which questions could you have answered better?
3. Where were you successful? And not so much?
4. Were there awkward silences?
5. Were you able to demonstrate your understanding of the organization?
6. How was your conversational style?
7. Did the interviewer ask questions that you couldn’t answer?
8. Did the interviewer have any concerns about your work history, candidacy or skills?
9. Were you able to ask questions at the end about the organization or position? If so, were the answers helpful?
10. Would you do anything differently next time? Or say something different?

Fantastic Roach Paper Art by Cliff Maynard

Cliff Maynard is a 38 year old male artist from Pittsburgh, United States. He is a maestro in Chronic Art, or — to be more specific — Roach Paper Art. Unusual but true, he uses unrolled roaches for his designs. His work is very original because his concept is unique and he has experimented with portraits from Jesus Christ to Bob Marley. The result is truly remarkable. Maybe that’s the reason why his art work always seizes attention. You can find more information about the artist and his work on Cliff Maynard’s website.
