Are you a SEASONED PRO?Then seek out the case studiesand more advanced lessons. Personally, I believe you can learn at least one new idea to inspire you as to what you could test, from any good blog post.

I’ve tried to find some of the better recent posts on A/B testing and conversion rate optimization to see where people’s ideas are at right now. You never know when you’ll find that case study that’s just like your own problem, or an important concept you find hard to communicate to your boss or clients.

10 insights from an expensive lesson, including: Gathering qualitative and quantitative data before testing, do A/A tests before you do A/B tests (you’ll need to read about that one), don’t expect increases on a monthly basis and multivariate tests never work… or at least for me. Good read.

Everyone loves a good case study, and this one from Marketing Experiments walks you through their whole process from start to finish to show an impressive conversion lift.

Another case study, this time from Ion Interactive. Which walks through the target audience, the changes made to the pages, why they were made and what happened in the end. Stats and case studies FTW.

I love title tests – they are almost always surprising. This one is good because it’s focused on attracting people to a webinar, which a lot of marketing companies are doing now – so listen up and use this info to test your own webinar registration pages.

I like this one because it starts properly with a hypothesis. Without one you might achieve success, but not know if it was based on your business goals (meaning that you’re still leaving money on the table). #ihatethatphraseftr

If you run a SaaS business then this will be interesting to you as it includes a pricing test. Which is the hardest thing to get right for your business. You have to be careful how you do it though as it’s illegal in some jurisdictions to offer different prices to different people. It’s safer to just play with layout and verbiage changes.

I’d say that nearly ALL A/B test results are surprising. But these five are a good set to add into your testing toolkit. Just remember, that what works for one page doesn’t necessarily work for your page – or customers.

Don’t be fooled by the title, this post takes the small business angle for A/B testing. And talks about tools to use, what to test and the benefits of conversion rate optimization. More importantly it covers how to set up a proper test and how to interpret the data.


12. An Introduction to Using A/B Testing for Marketing Optimization

An eBook from the eBook masters at Hubspot. To quote them directly: “A/B testing your landing pages can help you generate up to 40% more leads for your business. Add this result to the benefits you can get from split testing your calls-to-action and emails, and you’ll see some significant increases in lead generation.” It’s 50 pages and has case studies, guidelines, and what you should be testing.


13. Conversion Rate Optimization eBook Listed for Free on Amazon Kindle

I don’t own a Kindle, but if I did, then I’d probably give this free download a go. Nothing to lose right? It seems to be a lead in to a series that you would need to pay for, but if it’s good then why not? It’s like giving a free preview of an upcoming larger book. So in terms of a sales strategy, it’s a good one.

The goal is to ensure that once your ideal customer has read your case studies, they will feel:

  • You are comfortable in their industry.

Think about it on a smaller level, such as when you’re reading a how-to blog post. Most of them are geared toward average readers. But when you come across a how-to post specifically designed for your needs (such as online marketing for the healthcare industry), then you are more likely to understand and apply the information. 2. Tell the Story from Start to Finish

People enjoy reading a story. A great case study will allow someone to really get to know the customer in the case study including:

A final thing you could do is simply follow up with the customer in the case study and update your case study a few months down the road to show how your products / services are continuing to have long term benefits for the customer. This would give readers the opportunity to see that your goal is not only to help with immediate needs, but also to ensure long term results.

3. Provide Easy to Read Formatting

No one really likes to read one huge chunk of text, no matter how interesting and informative it might be. Be sure to use good content formatting elements like you would with articles, blog posts, and copywriting on your website including:

  • Headers
  • Images
  • Bulleted lists
  • Bolded & italicized text

In addition to providing great SEO value for your case studies page, these formatting elements will help your readers (especially those that like to skim) find the most important parts of your case study and get a great impression about what your business could do for them.

4. Include Real Numbers

Have you ever read case studies where a business states that they “doubled traffic” for the customer in their case study and wondered if that meant they went from 100 to 200 visits or 10,000 to 20,000 visits? Certain ways of displaying numbers can have an ambiguous meaning. You will want your case study to be as clear as day. So instead of just saying you doubled their traffic, show them real numbers and (if possible) real proof.

Case Study: Tiger Airways Selective Listening | Online Media Gazette

From the previous case study I did on Nestle, it seems like there’s a lot more companies that are also facing similar issues on Facebook with their customers. I am not going to push the blame on the customers but it’s more of a badly mismanaged social media case from them. The user backlash on Facebook seems to be going south for Tiger Airways after a few incidents that are unfavourable.

In a recent report, some users who are ‘fans’ of Tiger Airways Facebook page noticed that they were deleting negative comments from their wall and banning users who gives them those feedbacks. The way I see it, Tiger only wants their page to showcase the good side of customer feedbacks and hiding the negative aspects of it.

Tiger recently posted the above question on their fan page and it clearly got a lot of responses, both good and bad ones. However, the first ever comment was a negative one and instead of taking the feedback into their stride, the comment was ignored and the user was banned from posting again.

Under their discussion board, there were many questions left unanswered but there was one which got our attention.

The first post was marked as irrelevant by Tiger Airways but lucky for us, it’s still viewable by clicking ‘show post’. Here’s what we got:

Personally, I don’t think the above comment is irrelevant at all; as opposed to Tiger Airways’ opinion. It clearly was posted by a concerned customer of theirs and they should have handled it in a proper manner rather than going for the easier route of ignoring the comment.

At this time of writing this article, it looks like Tiger Airways has deleted all the negative discussions that were on their page.

Ironically, Derek Yeo, head of marketing at Tiger Airways was quoted once that he aims to get Tiger Airways to be more personal with their customers.

“You might be very cheap but if one has to go through a lot of trouble to avail your services it might not be worth it. We obviously reach out to budget and price-conscious travellers but we want to bring value to them not only through price but through a little extra smile, the ease with which they booked and seamless service.”

Given this goal, he has set out to put the airline much more firmly in touch with potential passengers. Here Yeo, a man with clear passion and energy for his brands, has a very definite plan.

For a Singapore based airline, I’m disappointed with the way they are handling their customers. Their approach to only take in the good side of things and block out the bad side makes me think that their communications department are made up of amateurs.
