How Quickly Do You Respond to Customer Service Requests on Social Media?

shutterstock_115409446

Social media sites are becoming virtual customer service centers, according to the NM Incite Social Care Survey. Currently, 47 percent of people who use social media sites are actively seeking customer service and 30 percent prefer to reach out to brands on social channels than pick up the phone and call. But customer service reps can breathe easy knowing this: 83 percent of Twitter users and 71 percent of Facebook users only expect brands to respond to them within one day of their post. That’s one day, not one hour or five minutes.

Facebook Shares Nab Biggest Gain Since IPO on Earnings, Analyst Upgrades (The Wall Street Journal)
Facebook on Wednesday posted its biggest daily stock gain since its initial public offering in May, a day after reporting strong revenue and progress on making money from mobile ads. The social network’s shares rose 19 percent to $23.23 on the Nasdaq Stock Market, its highest closing price in five weeks. Inside Facebook Facebook spent $87 million so far this year on business acquisitions not including its Instagram purchase, the company revealed in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday. The social network spent $521 million on Instagram — $300 million of which was in cash, the rest in vested shares of Class B common stock. The New York Times/Bits BlogFacebook still trails Google in online advertising, both on desktop and mobile. Analysts say that like Google, Facebook will most likely have to roll out an ad network that allows marketers to reach Facebook users wherever they are — whether they are browsing the Web or downloading a mobile application. Mashable We’re closer to seeing a widespread updated version of Facebook Messages. On Wednesday, Facebook user Interactive Swim posted a picture of the welcome note for the updated Messages which recently hit its page, indicating that the feature may be starting to roll out to additional users. Reuters U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday a Facebook post in which an Islamic militant group claimed credit for a recent attack on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya, did not constitute hard evidence of who was responsible. Read more

Would You Watch An Angry Birds Web Series?

Angry Birds is one of the world’s favorite mobile games with their most recent release, Angry Birds Space, garnering a whopping 10 million downloads in less than three days.  People wear Angry Birds costumes, dream ofAngry Birds theme parks, eat Angry Birds pizzas, and even shop in Angry Birds stores.  Soon, fans will be able to watch an Angry Birds web series as well.

Rovio has announced that they will be launching a 52-episode, weekly Angry Birds web series this fall.  Nick Dorra, head of animation at Rovio, said at the MIPTV conference in Cannes, “Angry Birds is not just about the gameplay, and will be in the future less and less about the slingshot, actually, and more and more about the characters.”  Dorra says, “We’re going to roll it out on all possible devices.  We’re looking at building a video app for that, and we’re also looking at partnerships and so on… We want to be on all screens.” Leer más “Would You Watch An Angry Birds Web Series?”

Blackberry Messenger Integrates with Facebook, Twitter Apps

The new applications integrate BBM functionality directly into the social applications, so that your BBM contacts and functionality is available directly from within whatever social application you choose to use. An example is the new Facebook for Blackberry 3.0, where you can share a status update as your BBM message. It doesn’t seem like you can connect with your BBM friends from within the Facebook application, and that’s a smart move as having two sets of friends within one application would be confusing.

That said, BBM has typically acted more like a direct chat service than a place to post updates or tweets, so it remains to be seen whether people are going to start posting their Tweets and Facebook status updates to their BBM accounts or not.

Take a look at more of the details here at the Blackberry blog.

Research in Motion, creators of the Blackberry, have had a tough run for the last few years.  The stock is down to $13 from $80 in 2010 and even higher before that, and Blackberry market share has taken a big hit.  Just recently, one of the co-founders stepped down and the company appointed a new CEO to help the company reverse its ailing fortunes.  Part of this turnaround is to enhance the customer offering, and RIM has announced a series of new social apps that leverage BBM in their social applications, and it may help strengthen the Blackberry offering. Nielsen, ComScore Battle for Online Audience Ratings

Nielsen, which currently has the monopoly on television ratings, is working on a similar metric that will be tested this month. The company has already secured MRC accreditation for its Online Campaign Ratings (OCR) system. Similar to television, OCR provides age and sex demographics through anonymous Facebook data, as well as online gross rating points (GRPs) that measure what percentage of the target audience an ad has reached multiplied by how often the audience has seen it during a particular campaign.

The 3MS group, a collaboration between the ANA, IAB, and 4A’s advertising organizations, has been looking for ways to translate online advertisements into identifiable units akin to 30-second commercials and then measure their effectiveness not just by the number of impressions served, but how often they are viewed and whether they’ve reached the target audience. It seems that ComScore and Nielsen are each closing in on a solution. 3MS will be sending out public-service announcements from the Ad Council to test out both systems this month.

AdAge has a thorough analysis of what this means for the advertising industry here.

As viewers increasingly turn to Facebook and Twitter to talk about television, advertisers have been looking for a way to translate online engagement into ratings. According to AdAge, ComScore is ready with a new standard for measuring online audiences that could rival Nielsen’s.

ComScore’s new Validated Campaign Essentials (VCE) would make sure people see at least 50 percent of the pixels of every online ad for at least one second.  This would create “viewable impressions” that would only be counted when viewed, as outlined in the Making Measurement Make Sense initiative (3MS) to standardize digital measurement.

The Media Rating Council (MRC) that governs audience measurement will formally audit VCE in mid-April before voting on its accreditation. A pre-audit of the system yielded favorable results, according to ComScore chief research officer Josh Chasin. Leer más “Nielsen, ComScore Battle for Online Audience Ratings”

The State Of LiveJournal — Stats & Growth Over The Years [Exclusive Infographic]

With all the buzz around newer social networks like Twitter, Facebook, Path, and Pinterest, it’s easy to forget that there are older social networks out there that are still thriving. While sites like Friendster and Myspace have gone under, LiveJournal, the original community-based social network, still continues to promote community, creativity and expression among millions of users.

This week, LiveJournal has been generous enough to provide us with a new infographic about the site’s growth over the years, and it’s got some pretty interesting stats. Since Brad Fitzpatrick founded LiveJournal in 1999, it has turned into a thriving community boasting 92 million visitors worldwide, 46 million journals and communities worldwide and more.

TED believes that “the more you know, the more amazing the world seems.”  To this end, TED-Ed wants to work with the world’s best educators to share their best lessons.  Educators are invited to share their lesson ideas and TED will review the lessons, work with the educators to refine them, help them record their lessons, and pair them up with talented animators to create lessons worth sharing.

The channel went up today with twelve videos, including an intro to TED-Ed and eleven lessons.  Check out the intro video and a couple cool lessons below and let us know what you think.  I absolutely love this initiative and can’t wait to see what I learn from TED-Ed.  How about you?

Google Aggregates Their Entertainment Offerings Into ‘Google Play’

Jamie Rosenberg, Google’s Director of Digital Content, recently posted on Google’s official blog about the new Google Play integrated service. It allows you to store your books, movies, apps and games on the cloud, and then lets you access them from whatever Google device you desire. This is a smart move that not only helps remove the frustration of copying files from one place to another, but also helps Google future-proof against privacy — once users are using Cloud systems more often it will be easier for Google to ensure that you’re using paid-for apps and movies.

According to the blog post, “starting today, the Android Market, Google Music and Google eBookstore will become part of Google Play.”  It’s not entirely clear whether they’re going to rename the market completely, but it does seem like that’s the plan — your Android market application will be updated and renamed in the coming days and the Google Market will be no more.
