Near field communication (NFC) technology embodies a set of standards for smart phones and other mobile devices that establish communications between such devices using radio frequencies.NFC Technology and Smartposter These transmissions can only be facilitated over short distances, hence the name of the technology. Typically, devices must either be touching or within an inch of one another in order to interface through NFC, but these devices do not require wires of any sort. NFC technology is an effective means of data transmission, especially in the commerce field.

Radio frequency identification (RFID) first emerged in 1983. NFC technology was developed as an offshoot of RFID, but did not garner any significant attention until 2004, when Nokia, Philips, and Sony founded the NFC Forum, a conglomerate that aims to promote the standardized use of the technology. Nokia was the first company to produce an NFC-enabled phone in 2006, thus drawing a significant amount of consumers attention to the technology. In recent years, NFC technology has become the cornerstone of mobile commerce.

Mobile commerce relies heavily on NFC technology. The technology enables smart phones and similar mobile devices to serve as mobile payment platforms, which can be used by consumers to make purchases of goods and services. Only mobile devices that are equipped with NFC chips can participate in mobile commerce. Typically, the financial information of a consumer is stored within this chip, or the mobile device itself. This information is then accessed to make transactions. By itself, NFC technology cannot initiate mobile transactions. Thus, mobile applications, often called mobile wallets, are needed to facilitate these payments. Leer más “NFC Technology What is it… | qrcodepress.com”

QR Codes help encourage recycling

The Whangarei District Council in New Zealand is using mobile and prizes to boost their programs.

A new promotion from the Whangarei District Council in New Zealand is taking a mobile friendly approach to promoting the use of its recycling program by using QR codes to give people the chance to win prizes when they recycle properly.

The six week program will run until December 3, to draw attention to the new permanent bins.

The permanent recycling bins will be located on the city streets, as well as one at Tutukaka on the foreshore. They will each feature QR codes that can be scanned by smartphone using recyclers, so that they can enter into draws that win points that will earn different types of prizes.

The QR codes recycling campaign is joining the “It’s a Karma thing” campaign by Love NZ.

The council has joined forces with the Love NZ campaign program called “It’s a Karma thing”, which allows QR codes and GPS technology to be used for scanning bin codes in order to earn larger numbers of “Karma Kredits.”

NFC technology being used for more than commerce

There are many uses for NFC technology that extend beyond the world of commerce. Before the technology became the backbone of mobile commerce, for instance, it was used in marketing to provide consumers with engaging experiences. Now, the technology is becoming more popular in the world of security because of its uses in access control. Ironically, NFC technology is currently surrounded by controversy concerning its security and how it can be easily exploited. The security industry has only ever seen these concerns justified in regards to commerce, however, meaning that the technology may be well suited for other purposes.

NFC-enabled sleeves serve as new form of access control

Both the University of San Francisco and the Villanova University have launched pilot projects concerning NFC technology and access control. These projects make use of NFC-enabled sleeves for an iPhone, developed by Ingresoll Rand. These sleeves are meant to provide students with access to certain areas of a campus as well as allow them to make use of some of the amenities that can be found therein. Thus far, students have shown a great deal of support for the NFC-sleeves now donning their smart phones and want to see more NFC services pop up around campus.

QR codes

Though marketers continually debate their value, these barcodes can be very useful.

This year has seen a massive use of QR codes by marketers, but consumers have been slow to catch on to what these digital barcodes are and how they can be used.

While some say the technology’s time is up, others say it is just about to take off.

The reason that there are so many marketers, brands, and companies still hanging on to the hope that QR codes will soon become commonly used among consumers, is that they are exceptionally inexpensive and simple to produce, and can be highly practical when they have been properly implemented.

QR codes have already been shown to be useful for brands and consumers alike.

Some examples of situations where this technology has been successfully used and where consumers have consistently participated include the following:• Temporary tattoos for children – Parents are always concerned about having their children go missing when they are out in public. Whether they are at the mall or at a busy theme park or festival, it can be very easy for a child to wander off within a matter of seconds. When the child has temporary tattoos of QR codes, it means that they can provide good Samaritans and staffers with the ability to scan the code and obtain the parents’ contact information, such as a cell phone number.
