Banking has gone mobile. With over half of all American adults, about 56%, sporting smart phones, banks and other financial management tools have quickly adapted their systems to be compatible, secure and easy to use on mobile devices. Many smart phone users have already made the change from traditional to mobile banking and according to Consultants at the Aite Group, the number of people banking on their phones will triple by the year 2016.

Mobile wallets are smart phones or tablets that record consumers payments and transactions. While some large banks are attempting to break into this industry, other companies like Pay-Pal, Google and Apple have already shown interest in the industry. These mobile wallets and spending apps, make it easy for consumers to keep track of spending, but have little impact on how they save.

Just as the shift from traditional to online banking, the shift from online to mobile will not come without a few bumps. Consumer demands and use patterns will inevitably steer the path of mobile banking. Some apps will float, others will sink, but efficiency and speed are certain to increase. Never before have consumers had the capability to store and manage so many financial resources in the palm of their hands.

Usuarios de iPhone tendrán que pagar por Whatsapp anualmente – Vía @expansioncom

La aplicación de mensajería instantánea Whatsapp lanzó ayer su última actualización para iOS que permitirá la descarga de la app de forma gratuita pero en forma de subscripción, es decir a cambio del pago de una cuota anual.

El nuevo modelo de subscripción adoptado por la compañía no es ninguna novedad. En marzo de este mismo año, Whatsapp causó cierto revuelo al anunciar que comenzaba a cobrar 0,89 céntimos al año a los usuarios de Android por el uso de su aplicación. En un primer momento, en Apple se libraron de este pago anual, al ser los únicos que pagaban por la descarga inicial.

Pero esta diversidad de opciones ha terminado. Desde ayer, la descarga de Whatsapp en la Apple Store es gratuita, pero el mantenimiento de la aplicación tiene un coste anual de 0,89 céntimos.

Buenos Aires es la primera ciudad de Latinoamérica en integrarse al proyecto CityNext de Microsoft

La red CityNext se basa en una red de soluciones basadas en la nube, para administrar datos y aplicaciones así como para gestionar y automatizar procesos administrativos, con el objetivo de brindar a los ciudadanos una plataforma global que le permita desenvolverse en sistemas tanto a nivle corporativo como móviles y de servicios al consumidor.

Todo esto está apoyado en una estructura global de más de 400 mil expertos en tecnología de todo el mundo que brindan soporte en todos los niveles. Uno de los casos de éxito iniciales, antes de oficializar el ingreso de Buenos Aires al proyecto, es el de la empresa Accendo, que en colaboración con el Gobierno de la Ciudad, desarrollaron el Centro de Atención al Inversor (CAI), una herramienta para asesorar y apoyar la reubicación de empresas para optimizar su rendimiento. Gracias al CAI, la ciudad logró reducir en un 65% el tiempo de gestión administrativa que necesitaba una empresa para realizar los trámites de relocalización.

Buenos Aires se suma a la lista de ciudades que integran la iniciativa CityNext junto a Auckland (Nueva Zelanda), Barcelona (España), Provincia de Hainan, Zhengshou (China), Hamburgo (Alemania), Manchester (Inglaterra), Moscú (Rusia) y Filadelfia (Estados Unidos).

The app is available for free on the App Store and Google Play. While Nara is currently concentrating on the restaurant vertical, reports suggest it is looking to move into doing the same for other fields, such as the hotel sector.

Created by a team consisting of “neuroscientists, computer scientists, astrophysicists, artists and entrepreneurs”, the app first asks users a few questions about the kind of eateries they like, based on food types, atmosphere and demographic, among others. When a suggestion is made, it can either be upvoted or downvoted depending on the user’s opinion, which can be logged either before or after they’ve tried it out. Foursquare check-ins are integrated to keep track of where users have been before, and which restaurants they like to go to regularly. By checking this against the decisions made by every other Nara user, the system quickly begins to intuit the kinds of decisions made by those with similar tastes.

6,000 mobile developers: Android most popular, iOS most profitable, Windows Phone most «next»

The average developer, the report shows, builds for 2.9 ecosystems simultaneously — most likely a mix of Android, iOS, and Windows Phone — with either Android, iOS, or HTML5 as their primary platform 84 percent of the time. That’s down from 2011, in which developers built for 3.2 ecosystems, and shows that BlackBerry likely fell out of some degree of favor.
