3 Ways to be the Architect of Your Own Life

Your vision can literally serve as your blueprint for the future. Your ability to walk into the life that you crave depends on the future you see. That’s because anything exceptional that you attempt is often birthed with a vision. It’s the vision that inspires hope when the struggle gets too hard and when calamity becomes all too familiar. That’s why it’s important to not bankrupt your future with a limited vision. It’s hard to move forward confidently without having a good idea of where you are going. Powerful motivator Zig Ziglar always says if you aim for nothing, you’ll hit the mark every time.

There are numerous reasons for lack of vision. Sometimes it’s the pain of previous failures that halts our progress. In such cases, we have to remember that missteps bring experience and provide insight; moreover, our survival is a testimony of our resilience. You can experience a do over! Other times we’re blinded by complacency with past successes. However, suppose we had stopped with the telegram or the telephone?

Architects are skilled in planning, design, and oversight. Architecture isn’t just limited to the construction of buildings. For example, often visionaries are architects of their generations.
When you look at the leaders of yesterday and today, such as Henry Ford, Bill Gates, and Steve Jobs, they are architects of sorts.

They planned, designed, and oversaw huge transitions that, in many cases, redefined how we function and process reality on a daily basis. Similarly, we can be the architects of our own lives. Here are 3 ways to awaken your inner architect!

How to Be a Successful Entrepreneur with the Right Mindset

Throughout my career I have met many different entrepreneurs starting out who have great ideas and visions for their company. They have all the right ingredients that make a successful entrepreneur: They know who their target market is, their problems and the solutions they seek, they know how to reach them and they have a sure-win marketing strategy to get them going.
However, some of these entrepreneurs don’t have the right mindset when starting out and this has a direct affect on their success. So how do you ensure you have a mindset geared for success?

It is said that 80% of the reasons holding us back from being successful are inside us and only 20% are on the outside – wow. . . I find this so interesting. How often do we take time to reflect on what is going on inside our minds and how this is affecting our outside world?

Veamos algunas claves. Leer más “Cómo ser trending topic.”

Laser-Tuned Nuclear Clock Would Be Accurate for Billions of Years

Researchers have proposed building a nuclear clock that would lose only one-tenth of a second over 14 billion years, the current age of the universe.

The design would be 100 times more accurate than current atomic clocks and might be used in applications such as higher-precision GPS satellites and experiments that probe fundamental physics.

Atomic clocks measure time using the oscillations of a single atom and are accurate to 17 decimal places. They are in widespread use for GPS measurements and synchronization in particle accelerator experiments, and you can even set your laptop to one.

Pepsi Levies a Sin Tax on Its Workers

The workers decided they wanted to withdraw as a group from Pepsi’s health plan, so Martucci began shopping for a new one. A dozen insurers were interested in the Teamsters’ business, but they wouldn’t provide quotes without seeing a history of employee health claims to get a sense of the costs they could expect. Martucci says Pepsi-Co failed to turn over everything the Teamsters requested, citing health-care privacy laws. “We have always been willing to provide the unions with as much information as possible,” says Dave DeCecco, a PepsiCo spokesman. Martucci filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board last fall alleging that the company violated its contract with the Teamsters. A spokesman for the NLRB says it’s trying to negotiate a settlement.

PepsiCo opposes so-called sin taxes when it comes to levying them on its own products—an idea Congress floated in 2009 as a way to pay for health-care reform. Thirty states introduced legislation for soda taxes meant to improve residents’ health and close budget gaps. PepsiCo spent at least $17 million on lobbying and advertising to battle the proposals from 2009 to 2011, according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, a Washington advocacy group. In the end, none of the taxes passed. “Most rational people understand that one product is not the cause of obesity,” says DeCecco. “It’s caused by a multitude of factors.”

Pol_pepsi12__01__630x420Four years ago, PepsiCo (PEP) began rolling out a wellness program that charges its employees $50 a month if they smoke or have obesity-related medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and high blood pressure.

Workers can avoid the surcharge if they attend classes to learn how to break their nicotine addictions or lose weight. When about 400 unionized PepsiCo bottlers and truck drivers in central New York learned early last year they’d be subject to the fee, they rebelled. It’s a “sin tax,” says Ozzie Martucci, secretary-treasurer of Teamsters Local 669 in Albany. “We’re against that type of tax, frankly. It feels wrong.” Leer más “Pepsi Levies a Sin Tax on Its Workers”

What is the next industry Apple can disrupt? Banking!

“The strength of Apple’s relationship with consumers is a result of its ability to redefine the terms of competition in an industry and design emotionally rich ‘human’ experiences,” said Powney. “This research tells us Apple customers perceive a fit where at first glance we would assume the brand could not travel. To observe a ‘wrong’ and ‘make right’ is a core characteristic of this business. Apple’s ethos, its way of being and way of doing is instinctively understood by its customers. This makes it a truly dangerous animal to a startling array of sectors.”

Maybe not banking, but how about mobile payments?

Again, Apple, is very disciplined about what areas it moves into and is famous for saying “no” to all kinds of projects. But the numbers indicate an openness from the public for Apple to get into more financial services. Apple may not want to get into banking, which would carry a lot of regulatory burdens, but it could take that trust and build a mobile payments service, something we’ve speculated about.

Apple’s brand is very much tied to computing and services built around that. But increasingly, the bigger game in mobile is turning to payments, which could be worth $670 billion by 2015. That’s a market that everyone from the carriers, banks, credit card companies and a host of start-ups would like to own. Apple already has a strong financial relationship with its consumers via iTunes, which is believed to have more credit cards on file than any other company. Apple has already applied for patents that could lead to an end-to-end system that would include mobile marketing, mobile payments and mobile retailing.

While anticipation grows for a possible Apple television launch at some point, the company may want to think about diversifying into banking. A new survey of 5,092 respondents in the U.K. and the U.S. from marketing and research consultancy KAE found that one in 10 people would consider banking with Apple, and 43 percent of existing Apple users would.

Apple becoming a bank is a pretty off-the-wall idea and not likely to become reality any time soon.

But the study demonstrates the kind of trust that Apple has built up with its brand. Two-thirds (66 percent) of respondents cited “trust” as their primary reason to consider Apple for banking, and a little over half believed Apple could making banking with them easy to access and manage and reliable. KAE said that Apple would face no capital constraints in building a deposits base, even with its recent dividend and share buyback plan. And with its history of successfully cross-selling products, its potent retail locations and affluent customer base, Apple would be well positioned to become one of the most profitable consumer banks, KAE said.
