INFOGRAPHIC: Facebook Conquers The World

Despite that, Google continues to pursue Facebook with their Google +1 product, formerly named “Google Me” in the press. Clearly Facebook’s domination wasn’t an overnight thing, with early concerns about MySpace, who was the leader in social networking for a period of time. While this map misses a number of other less-dominant social networking sites, it has been interesting to watch the spread of the social web giant over time, something that the image below effectively illustrates.

For the past year Vincenzo Cosenza has been actively plotting Facebook’s increasing domination via a world map and last night he published an updated version of his map.

According to the updated statistics, Facebook is now the market leader in 115 out of 132 countries. As we all know, China and Russia continue to present some challenges however outside of China, Facebook is gaining serious ground just about everywhere. At this point it has become pretty much common thought that there is no way to defeat Facebook’s stranglehold on the social web.

Go Media Instagram Challenge

Once your design is complete, upload it to the Go Media User Showcase:

2. Join the Go Media User Showcase Group (only group members can contribute)
3. Upload your designs to your own profile
4. Click on your newly uploaded designs then click the button “send to group” above your image and choose the Go Media group.
5. Tag your image with “Go Media Instagram Challenge” (use the quotes when adding the tag so it registers as one big tag)

We’ll run the challenge for 2 weeks, then pick the best of the bunch and feature them in an upcoming blog post here on the ‘Zine, with a short interview of the creator. Our fave design will receive $25 in Arsenal credit as well.

Go!

So who hasn’t heard of Instagram by now? If you haven’t, it’s a photo-sharing service based around a free iPhone app. It’s huge, and to be honest I’m not exactly sure why.

You take photos, add an optional retro filter to it, then upload and share to people who follow you. Kind of like Twitter for photos. Kinda. You can also post the photos to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr and more.

Here’s what we want you to do: if you’re an iPhone owner, go out and take some photos using Instagram and upload to your Flickr account. Then, use the photos in an original design. Doesn’t have to be anything fancy or involved. Since it’s winter now, let’s make that the theme to help you get started. If you don’t own an iPhone, find a friend with one or find an Instagram image online from another user (and get permission to use the photo first, of course).

All designs must conform to the square Instagram dimensions. You are free to do anything to the photo except add filters from your graphics software. Only the photo filters from within Instagram are allowed. We’re on the honor system for this. The idea is to limit your resources to nudge your creativity. You’ll only be cheating yourself.

Once your design is complete, upload it to the Go Media User Showcase:

Influence, Cash, or Hobby: Which Blogging Choice Is Right for You?

When I first started a blog that I took seriously, it was to promote an ebook that I had published on Amazon’s Digital Text platform. Initially, I wanted the blog to be my “author’s headquarters,” but soon after, I realized what I really wanted to do with my blog. It was far from my initial goal, and I wish I’d made the right decision from the beginning, rather than reversing course.
The problems

Changing your blogging type after you start the blog causes problems. Those problems include, but are not limited to:

* losing readers and subscribers that had expectations
* confusing the search engines due to content changes
* wasting time marketing your blog on the wrong sites.

Readers walk

When you change your blog style or niche, it’s common sense that your readers will most likely walk. Think about it. They came to your blog because they came across some content that intrigued them. Now that you’ve decided to change your content, what reason do they have to stick around?

It’s important to choose your blog style ahead of time, and think about it carefully. You can literally waste hours of your time approaching the wrong reader audience. You can also end up being bad-mouthed by another blogger who’s angry with your switch.

Search engines get confused

It is a search engine’s job to make sure it indexes and ranks relevant content. Let’s say you start a blog about your golf hobby, but then you switch course, writing a stock tips business blog. Search engines may have already given you good rankings for golf. If you change your content, you’ll lose those rankings. You may even end up being penalized by the search engines.

When you first publish your blog, unless you’re blog hopping and guest posting, search engines are likely to be the first ones to read your content. Make sure they leave as happy customers. How? Be consistent. Your niche and blogging style should never change once you start.

You waste time

Should you have done your research on blog marketing, you’ll know that blog commenting and article marketing are excellent ways to promote your blog and build backlinks to it. If you change your style or niche, you have to consider the fact that you wasted all that time writing irrelevant articles that don’t match your newly chosen niche. The audiences for those article sites, backlinks, and guest posts will no longer be interested in what your blog has to say. When they click through to your site, they’ll be disappointed.

Another wasted effort would be the fact that you now have to delete your mailing list that you may have built up, since your subscribers didn’t sign up for information on your new topic. They subscribed because they had an interest in your previous topic. Leer más “Influence, Cash, or Hobby: Which Blogging Choice Is Right for You?”
