The dangers of focus!
“Design thinkers must act like anthropologists or psychologists investigating how people experience the world emotionally and cognitively.” Tim Brown
This reference makes me sharpen my past and present as a psychologist and I jumped out of the chest a character I greatly appreciate the observation.
Consider the observation as the fundamental food for creativity and innovation. However this process of feeding ideas and ways of thinking often emerges a “blind spot”.
Blind spots occur because of the peculiarity of the architecture design of our eyes. Cells at the back of the eye, a layer called the retina, gathers the light, through a lens, all that is before us.
A recent study suggests that the visual system of the brain may create a physiological representation of visual information, around the blind spots, painting a scene automatically consistent that is, filling the void length.
“Seeing is not everything in the recording of information because it is active and constructive” – Colin Ware
Interestingly blindness often disappears when we approach a business not ours and we can change our radar and identify a number of small things that “stand out”.
If this happens in relation to the activities of third parties why it not happens to our activities?
It is essential that we be able to see the blind spots in our business or our work and then do something for them.
And the best way to minimize the negative impact of blind spots is to seek the advice of those who think differently from ours.
This is the case of Idris Mootee: “The unknown is where large organization feels uneasy. Innovators have a restless curiosity to explore intersections. They see social technologies as an enabler of innovation and new business models, rather than as a way of making the current model more efficient.”
Collaboration is at the heart of the business processes of today and most organizations are still blind as to the forms of control. New architectures for business processes and total quality management have been effective in measuring and improving the efficiency of people and organizations.
But the invisible and networks that help develop the business?
The ease and low cost communications, globalization and the increasing specialization of knowledge work based on collaboration within and between organizations are more important than ever. The need to manage the collaboration is increasing and design thinking can be a path.
But we must not forget that “focus is the core reasons for blind spots. Through constant scanning and reading weak signals, we can then recognize and seize upon that moment when luck aligns the forces of the universe to unite need and opportunity in such a way that the connections between unconnected dots can be seen. Strategic Innovation is not about creativity or design; it is about organization agility and constant organization realignment” – Idris Mootee
Not in the ways of thinking that most of the design is distinguished thinkers, but in their actions. The design thinkers act differently from analysts and decision makers. Design is an activity of extreme and borders. The design tends to use all the faculties of people who exercise in each context.
The design thinker uses the mind and body, left and right brain, hand and heart, the analysis and the like.
The design thinker is always combined with simplicity and elegance!
