La industría del porno se alza contra la piratería

by Marcus Hurst

Why Marketers Need SEO

In an interview entitled Common Mistakes of Marketing Creatives and CEOs, Keith Reinhard (Chairman Emeritus of DDB) explains…

“When I was growing up in the industry, let me entertain you, let me make you smile, I’m very versatile, it was one way.”

Advertising was this way for decades, and what may have worked for the last 40 years clearly isn’t as effective these days. A shift like this comes as no surprise. Whether its advertising or just about anything, things change.

Does your business have a good reason? No? Why not?

It doesn’t matter if it’s an employee or a vendor, everyone should have a solid reason for the things they do. Otherwise, quite frankly, what they’re doing is just a hobby. Why should be asked all the time. And clear and quick answers should always be given.

I’ve seen it happen a lot specifically amongst creatives. It seems that their minds tend to race faster than they can control the purpose of what they’re doing. It’s actually a great part of the creative process. You just need to make sure you take it to the next level before stopping. Internally we’re asking why all the time. Until we have an acceptable answer, we’re not done. [Más…] To me this is a true to test to see if someone is competent in what they do. Sure, you can wow me with great design, but telling me why it was done that way is what’s truly impressive. Launch a new website that has all the bells and whistles, but be clear on why I should use your product. Tell me I need a new message, but explain to me why the old one isn’t working. You tell me over and over that you’re the best, but I need to see why I should believe that.

The end of Flash: Another tool that can no longer do the job

Adobe Flash
Image via Wikipedia

It’s amazing how quickly things come and go in this age of technology. A killer app or product is nothing to take for granted, because in no time at all it could turn into a killed app.

Take Adobe Flash for example. It’s been years since we’ve taken this software seriously in our business. There was a day when Flash intros, web navigation and entire websites wow’d the world with their creativity. That hasn’t been the case for a number of years and yesterday’s “Thoughts on Flash” letter by Steve Jobs finally killed the three-year-old rumors as to why the iPhone and new Ipad don’t run Flash. It also effectively killed the platform altogether. Leer más “The end of Flash: Another tool that can no longer do the job”

Knowing and wanting are not the same thing

Have you ever heard of the mere exposure effect? It’s a psychological artifact first studied by Robert Zajonc. Professor Zajonc found that simply exposing experimental subjects to a picture or a piece of music briefly led those subjects to later rate it more positively than other, similar stimuli which they had not been shown earlier. [Más…]

This psychological effect is well known to advertisers. In fact, many advertisers have taken Zajonc’s “discovery” – that people express undue liking for things merely because they are familiar with them – and use it to rationalize blowing limited resources plastering their names and logos all over the place. Some even manage to piss off potential customers while wasting their money (e.g. advertisers who pollute the experience of a particular environment).

Why Twitter Is a Ripe Target for Multicultural Marketers

African-American and Hispanic usage above average

Evidence from Edison Research’s “Twitter Usage in America: 2010” survey suggests that marketers targeting multicultural audiences would do well to note the service’s diverse ethnic makeup. [Más…]

Hispanics were also overrepresented on Twitter, at 17% versus 13.4% of the US Internet population.

Why China Won’t Surpass America As #1 Superpower Any Time This Century

Vincent Fernando, CFA | May. 5, 2010, 6:25 AM

china vs usaA month ago we looked at how population trends would allow the U.S. economy to keep expanding at a relatively rapid rate for the next few centuries… just as China’s population trends would be hurting China’s economic growth.

Population dynamics alone argue that it will be a challenge for Chinese GDP to overtake America’s, though this challenge is likely to be met.

Yet even once Chinese GDP is larger than America’s, raw aggregate GDP is not enough to become a world super power, and Harvard Professor Joseph Nye gives an explanation why in an interesting opinion piece in Caixin.

The Anatomy of a Website

Many people find it hard to picture a website as more than a bundle of content. This often makes explaining the mixture of languages used and the way everything comes together a difficult task. [Más…]

Because what makes up a website can be related and linked to the physiology of a human body, this article’s comparison should help clients and beginners alike understand the complex nature of a site’s creation and components.
