Is Real Time Social Media Destroying Our Entertainment Industries? | by jeffbullas.com
Written by Jeff Bullas - jeffbullas.com
The web is changing the world as we used to know it. You can see it every day if you take the time. You book your taxi using an iPhone app, you read your news or play a game using an iPad or an iPhone on the train on the way to work and you watch a video from the net and not a rented DVD from the video store down the street. I personally saw the effect on business on the weekend as I passed our local record store that had announced in its window that it is ceasing to trade next week. Sigue leyendo
Siri contra Batman
TICbeat

Web Design Lessons from An iDevice
By: Alexander Dawson
http://www.onextrapixel.com/2010/11/04/web-design-lessons-from-an-idevice/
While I appreciate that there are many happy Android, Blackberry and WinMo users out there, after previously being an Apple hater turned convert to the iPhone I believe that the way in which the device along with its sister products the iPod Touch and iPad have been created showcase some good principles and best practices that many in our industry (regardless of their position on Apple) could follow more frequently, even if you don’t agree with some of their methods or products.

This article is dedicated to what I believe are these great “life” lessons which can be drawn from many sources both online and offline. The reason why the focus of this article is on Apple is mainly due to the unique way it’s got lessons to highlight within its hardware and build quality, the way it’s software functions and even how it browses the web. There’s nothing like getting inspired from a non-website source to get you thinking, and hopefully this article will do just that for you too!
Note: It’s worth mentioning that many of the lessons and practices outlined in this article could be based on any number of other mobile devices, however it’s worth saying that Apple do genuinely seem able to really connect with an audience’s needs when it comes to an effective user interface. Ad brings newspapers to life
Ad brings newspapers to life
October 5th, 2010 by Lauren Fisher in Advertising
AXA have created an excellent newspaper ad, that shows the new age of advertising at its best. I’m a big fan of interactive advertising, and what happens when ads meet social and this is an excellent example of that. The video below shows the AXA ad in action, which directed the reader to place their iPhone over an empty space on the page :
Given that AXA was Belgium’s first insurance company to launch an iPhone app, it’s fitting that they would use such a unique method to announce it. This is one of the first ads of this kind that I’ve seen, where you see a real consideration of the user journey. They haven’t just added on an element to integrate with mobiles, but have actually built it into the story of the ad itself.

iPhone App Designs Reviewed: Critique Board and Lessons Learned
- By Alex Komarov | //smashingmagazine.com
Some time ago I started a mobile app design review section on our company’s website. The idea behind this “Crit Board” was simple: if mobile developers want to create apps that people want to buy, they’ll need help with design and usability. But most of the time they can’t afford it. On our Crit Board, developers can send us their mobile apps (iPhone apps, Android apps, Blackberry apps) along with questions and problems, and we (free of charge) will pick apart key usability issues, illustrate our design recommendations and post our findings.
The only condition to get free criticism from us is that you agree for it to be made public, which is why I am able to share several case studies with Smashing’s readers right now. It’s hard to imagine something more relevant: these are real problems facing real developers. I hope these problems and the proposed solutions will benefit others who have similar issues and will be generally relevant to those working in the field.

What Do People Who Send 200+ Text Messages & 30+ Voice Calls Per Day Have to Say?
The Pew Internet and American Life Project released another report of interest to gadget fans.
Cell phones and American adults (available online & PDF download)
Flowtown.com turned Pew’s numberes into a series of easy to understand pie charts and bar graphs.
How Are Adults Using Mobile Phones?
Some interesting items that pop out of the report and graphics?
- 18% of people 18 to 24 years old send more than 200 text messages per day
- This heavy texting (200+ per day) drops to 3% for people 25 to 29 years old
- Heavy text users do not text exclusively. In fact, they also make a lot of voice calls. 26% of heavy text messegers make 31 or more voice calls per day
What is it these people text and say in all of these messages every day?
