Letterpress is an amazing artform – it’s been around since the 15th century, first started by Johannes Gutenberg (famous printer of the Gutenberg Bible) to print books and other literary works, until sadly it was replaced by digital printing techniques. Now coming back into fashion, it’s more recently been used by artists and designers to create printworks; in particular, it’s increasignly used to create highly detailed greetings cards, invitations and business cards.
This showcase takes a look at some amazing examples of letterpressing. It’s amazing how many different styles you can create!
My favourite letterpress printers are Eastsix, an invitation design studio based in New York City. Run by “East-Siders”, Stacey and Marina (life-long friends from the age of 6), they aim to create a unique and beautiful design that suit the clients down to a ‘T’.
