http://america.infobae.com

Women’s Influence on Purchase Decisions on the Rise

Millennial women most likely to broadcast shopping decisions, recommendations

Today’s US woman is expanding her “sphere of influence,” according to September 2011 research fromFleishman-HillardHearst and Ipsos Mendelsohn. Through social networks and web tools, she is both contributing and seeking out purchase recommendations from friends and followers.

According to the survey, 54% of US female internet users said they feel a responsibility to help friends and family make wise purchase decisions, and nearly half said they influence friends and family to buy—or not buy—a product or service on a regular basis. When a similar study was conducted in September 2008, only 31% of women said they felt they regularly influenced other people’s purchase decisions.

Social networks and social reviews have played an important role in this rise in purchase influence. In the last six months, 46% women said they had read reviews about a product on a website. Moreover, 33% had recommended a specific product or service to someone, and 30% had reviewed a product or service on a website.

Self-Image Is The Key To Success In Business And In Life

Self-Image Is The Key To Success In Business And In Life

“There are no limitations to the mind except those we acknowledge.”–Napoleon Hill

It has been conclusively demonstrated that individuals who expect to succeed at a given venture are more likely to do so than those who expect to fail. Positive expectations work as a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy–those who expect to succeed are more likely to do so, thus maintaining and reinforcing their expectation for success.

Today, we are going to take this analysis one step further and address the underlying cause of these expectations.

The expectations we have for ourselves are largely determined by our self-image. The opinion you have of yourself directly impacts your expectations and thus your chances for success in ventures of all sorts.

http://espiritualidadypolitica.blogspot.com

The Value of Theoretical And Practical Knowledge

The Value of Theoretical And Practical Knowledge

-.-
A couple of recent guest posts have discussed the value of 4 year and online degrees as compared to learning on your own. While I’ve added some thoughts to the previous 2 posts, I wanted to clarify some thing in a post of my own.

In case you missed them here are the 2 guest posts I’m referring to.

Before anything else let me make it clear that I think knowledge is incredibly important to any career and life in general. In the signature to my email I add a line from a Bob Dylan song. Brownie points if you know the song.

He not busy being born is busy dying.

I use the quote as a reminder to always be learning something new and always striving to grow. The moment you stop doing either is the moment you stop being.

Albert Einstein

Theory vs. Practical

When it comes to knowledge there are different kinds of knowledge and different ways of acquiring each kind. On one side is theory and on the other side is the practical application of theory. Both types of knowledge are important and both make you better at whatever you do.

I think those who advance the furthest in life tend to be those who acquire knowledge at both ends of the spectrum and acquire it in a variety of ways.

Theoretical knowledge — teaches the why. It helps you understand why one technique works where another fails. It shows you the whole forest, builds the context, and helps you set strategy. Where self education is concerned theory prepares you to set a direction for your future education. Theory teaches you through the experience of others.

Theoretical knowledge can often lead to a deeper understand of a concept through seeing it in context of a greater whole and understanding the why behind it..

Practical knowledge — helps you acquire the specific techniques that become the tools of your trade. It sits much closer to your actual day-to-day work. There are some things you can only learn through doing and experiencing. Where theory is often taught in the ideal of a vacuum, the practical is learned through the reality of life.

Practical knowledge can often lead to a deeper understanding of a concept through the act of doing and personal experience.

Both of the above are important. You won’t survive in any career unless you can bring results and to do that you need practical knowledge. There’s no avoiding it.

At the same time learning how to solve a specific problem only teaches you how to solve that same problem again. Practice can only take you so far. Theory helps you apply what you learned solving one problem to different problems. Lee el resto de esta entrada

How User Personas Can Improve Your CRO Strategy

How User Personas Can Improve Your CRO Strategy

CRO is a technique that should be in every digital marketer’s arsenal – it would be short sighted to drive huge volumes of traffic to your site if you’re haven’t got an eye on whether they’re converting or not.

But how do you make sure that you’re optimizing your site for all the different types of users that visit your site, many of whom will have different aims and intentions for their visit? User personas offer a means of identifying these user groups and presenting them in an accessible format that can be shared throughout your business.

In my last post on the KISSmetrics blog, I spoke about how you can put user personas to work when carrying out keyword research or implementing a link building campaign. If you’re not familiar with personas and how they can be developed, I’d recommend you check out at least the first part before you read on.

Done? Great! Let’s have a look at how they can be useful in the CRO process.

User Research

Research is an integral part of any good CRO project – how can you make educated, informed changes to improve your website if you have no research to base them upon? User research allows you to get insights into how prospective customers might feel when using your site, how they react to different messaging, and what their objections might be.

Techniques employed during user research include:

  • One on one usability testing where representative users are asked to carry out representative tasks and vocalize their thoughts whilst the session is recorded or a tester takes notes.
  • Interviewing users either in person, online, or over the phone. This may be less focused on the usability of the site itself and more their attitudes towards the brand, the market, what they look for in a product or service.
  • Surveys and feedback forms which could be run on-site (typically and sometimes irritatingly presented as a screen overlay), promoted to email lists, promoted to social media followers, or respondents bought.

If you have already developed user personas for your site, this is a perfect opportunity to employ them to ensure that your user research includes responses that represent an accurate cross section of your user-ship.

I’m going to refer to the example personas used in the SEO centric post I mentioned above – it’s from the Vodafone developer blog and depicts 3 groups of users that they considered when designing a widget (but in this post we’ll use them for their website in general):

http://www.marketingdirecto.com

How to Write a Business Plan

How to Write a Business Plan

business-plan-11100102

While it may sound complicated, a business plan is nothing more than an organized outline of your idea of how your business is going to function. And experts agree: you need one.

“A business plan is like a road map,” explained James Jacobs, the retired president of a Dallas-based financial services firm and a SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives) advisor. “It’s a road map that helps you identify where you want to go and how to get from point A to point B.”

A business plan should include a variety of pieces and some will be more detailed than others depending on the kind of business you’re running and your reason for writing the business plan.

There are certain pieces of the business plan that are must-haves:
