26 Keys to Success in Social Media (or Dating)

by Mike Brown
http://www.business-strategy-innovation.com/

There’s a slide in my standard social media strategy presentation showing a young couple looking lovingly at one another. Okay, actually only the girl is looking lovingly. The boy’s face looks as if he’s brimming with ulterior motives!

The image is there to remind organizations considering social media that their strategies can’t resemble the teenage boy’s apparent dating strategy if they expect to build strong, lasting relationships.

The striking similarities between dating’s early stages and the first phases of implementing a successful social media strategy are a convenient way to gauge whether your organization’s social media strategy is likely be appropriate and successful.

With several Brainzooming presentations on social media strategy coming up, I wanted to share the specifics behind the slide’s message in more detail.

Here are 26 pieces of dating advice as valuable in trying to form a personal relationship as they are in creating successful social media-based relationships…: Sigue leyendo

Do Loyalty Programs Really Work?

We have a saying in our family: “Going broke saving money.” The philosophy of a traditional reward program is simple: reward customers for their purchases thus encouraging future purchases (and hopefully an increase in spending).  As a marketer I’m a fan of loyalty programs and as a consumer I love receiving my free drink from Starbucks every couple of weeks (I need to purchase 15 drinks to get a free drink. You do the math.) But as my interactions with brands move away from offline engagement and move toward Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, etc., I’m starting to evaluate the effectiveness of the traditional loyalty program. Do loyalty programs really work? Apparently Mason Thelen from BrandWeek is asking this same question. Sigue leyendo

Everybody’s Doing It: How Marketers Are Utilizing Social Media In 2010

http://www.flowtown.com/blog/everybodys-doing-it-how-marketers-are-utilizing-social-media-in-2010

“Social media is hot. And for businesses it represents a marketing opportunity that transcends the traditional middleman and connects companies directly with customers. This is why nearly every business on the planet – from giants like Starbucks and IBM to the local ice cream shop — are exploring social media marketing initiatives.” That quote, from Michael Stelzner, the founder of SocialMediaExaminer.com, represents the contents of this graphic well. This graphic was created using data from the Social Media Marketing Industry Report for 2010, which provides some great insight into the growth of the social realm and the specific tools marketers are utilizing to spread their voice across the social sectorSigue leyendo

How Shady Web Design Sites Get High Search Engine Results

How Shady Web Design Sites Get High Search Engine Results

There’s an unspoken understanding amongst web designers that the most valuable marketing real estate is Google’sweb design” front page. With over 300,000 searches monthly and thousands of dollars spent in search advertising on an hourly basis, the value of a top placement for terms like “web design”, “website design”, and “logo design” can often be financially crucial to web design businesses.

You’d think, then, that Google and other search engines such as Bing would spend their time monitoring the top web design pages for link spam and other unethical, black hat search engine marketing tactics. However, it appears that Google’s “web design” results are fairly unfiltered and loosely regulated, as a quick scan of their inbound link profile will show.

Armed with Yahoo Site Explorer and a desire to see what makes the most valuable keywords in the web design industry tick, I checked the first page for any unusual rankings, unethical marketers, and interesting search results.

What I discovered was quite alarming: The same black hat SEO tricks that have been used for years are still helping short-term search engine marketers make their way into the top search engine results page (SERP).

From link spam (also known as spamdexing) to manipulative page widgets, there’s an alarming amount of dark SEO tactics going on in the web design world.

This article discusses SEO techniques that a few disreputable web design companies are using, and what they mean for ethical web designers. Sigue leyendo

http://www.mercado.com.ar/

Everything You Need to Know About Social Media Marketing, You Already Know

In the rush to gain subject matter credibility in the eyes of anyone who’s paying attention, PR firms, advertising agencies, marketing organizations, application service providers, and consultants and consultancies in nearly every business vertical are all publishing reports, studies, white papers and more about social media-related marketing. But in nearly every case, they’re either repeating what someone else has already said or, worse yet, they’re wasting everyone’s time by pointing out the obvious.

Take, for example, Social EQ, a “first-of-its-kind study of social media effectiveness, identifying six key factors that drive successful online campaigns.” Long story short, the geniuses over at APCO Worldwide and — no, this isn’t a typo — The Huffington Post, can now tell you with absolute certainty (because they have a model, an “advanced statistical analysis” of an “extensive qualitative and quantitative research study among Social Informants”) that dialogue, customer service, quality of content, platform diversity, engagement/interaction and optimization all play a role in the effectiveness of your social media marketing. Duh!

How to Create Custom Facebook Pages

http://www.labnol.org/internet/create-custom-facebook-pages/17957/

All the big brands like Coke, Starbucks, Nokia, and even Apple, maintain fan pages on Facebook that are “liked” by millions of people worldwide. These pages are designed professionally and have certain useful features.

For instance, the Apple iTunes page lets you search for apps right inside Facebook. In the case of Threadless, you can comment on your favorite T-Shirt designs without leaving Facebook while CNN has all the breaking news stories listed on its Facebook landing page.

How do they create such interesting Facebook pages? Do you really need to hire designers or skilled programmers who understand the ins-and-outs of Facebook APIs in order to build interactive and beautiful fan pages? Well, the answer is no.

Create a Customized Facebook Fan Page… Sigue leyendo
